Help With Exam Fears

Dealing with Exam and Test Fears

I often see clients who are experiencing exam nerves and I guess a small amount of anxiety before an important exam is both natural and understandable, we often do better when we put ourselves under a little under pressure.  Almost every student about to take an exam will at some point will have a few nerves...

This may be nothing more than that 'butterflies' feeling in the tummy.  However for some, the anxiety becomes intense and over whelming, it may even turn into panic and lead to a complete shut down of normal recall and concentration, in these cases help is needed and people find their way to my door.

Test and exam anxiety can be a very real problem because it can actually stop a clients progress toward their desired goals dead in its tracks.  For example I have had perfectly good learner drivers come to see me. These people have been urged to take their test by instructors who are sure they are ready and able to pass it.  One client came to see me who had taken his test 13 times. This client after seeing me passed his driving on the next (14th) attempt and the only difference was that this time he felt more confident, calm and relaxed as he took the test.

In another instance a trainee midwife who was desperate to pass her exams after years of intensive training came to see me.  Her whole future career depended on her getting her degree and just the examinations stood in her way, by her own admission she came to see me as a last resort.  She passed her exams with flying colours and kindly left me a wonderful testimonial on Yell.com.

I have worked with all kinds of people taking all kinds of tests including people doing 'the knowledge' who later went on to become London Cabbies, teachers, police officers, trainee accountants, people taking their legal exams for the bar and both mature and young students, people of all ages.

Positive suggestions can be made during sessions of hypnotherapy, calming self-hypnosis techniques can be taught; work on confidence is important too.  But there are also plenty of things that students can do to help themselves, they can develop good study habits, avoid last minute cramming, get enough sleep and eat well. Positive self-talk is important too. Exam techniques to use once in the exam can be put in place and this is all part of the process of preparation for a good result.

Once the mind is calm and the client confident the results speak for themselves, people gain great help from plugging into their own inner resources with the help of hypnosis. If you need help with confidence for a test or examination, get in touch.
