EFT Tapping into feeling better

What is EFT?

Emotional Freedom Technique or EFT is a mind-body practice that involves tapping with your fingertips on specific meridian points on the body while focusing on a particular issue.

Meridian points are believed to be pathways through which energy flows in the body, as identified in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). The technique is designed to release blockages in these pathways, blockages may contribute to a range of negative emotions, chronic pain, and stress.

The underlying principle of EFT is that negative emotions or pain stem from disruptions in the body’s energy field. Very similar to acupressure or acupuncture stimulating meridian points, while addressing the issue cognitively. EFT aims to restore balance both in body and the mind.

Benefits of EFT

- In stress reduction studies suggest that EFT can significantly lower cortisol levels, helping to reduce our reaction to stress.

- The emotional healing element of tapping is said to be effective in helping people manage anxiety, depression, phobias, and trauma.

- EFT has been reported to reduce chronic pain and tension headaches, once any medical issues have been properly evaluated and ruled out.

- Athletes, students, and performance professionals use EFT to help overcome performance anxiety and enhance focus.

- Tapping can help challenge and reframe limiting beliefs, leading to increased confidence and greater self esteem.

EFT and Scientific research

Scientific research supports the effectiveness of EFT. For instance, a 2012 study published in the Journal of Nervous and Mental Disease found that EFT significantly reduced symptoms of PTSD in veterans. Another study in Energy Psychology: Theory, Research, and Treatment highlighted EFT’s potential for reducing food cravings and supporting weight loss.
