Expert Hypnosis to Quit Vaping

I'm increasingly seeing adults who find themselves dependent on vaping. They often share that while they know it may be less damaging than traditional smoking in some ways, their desire is to be free from reliance on any artificial substance.

Many feel they've simply exchanged one habit for another. In fact, recent findings from ASH in 2024 revealed that the distribution of vapers' with urges to vape is remarkably similar to tobacco smokers' with urges to smoke, clearly pointing to a dependence.

Vaping was initially introduced as a tool to help adults quit smoking. However, the concerning rise in vaping among young people, many of whom were never smokers to begin with, is a significant issue that deserves our collective attention.

Beyond personal health concerns, a key reason many clients seek my help to stop vaping is the desire to set a positive example for their children. It's truly a wise instinct for parents to be reluctant about their children becoming familiar with vapes, especially when they are  being used by an adult they trust.

The incidence of young people vaping is worrying, and extensive research is being conducted to understand its full implications.

Consider these figures: NHS data for 2021 indicated that 9% of 11 to 15-year-old children used e-cigarettes, up from 6% in 2018.

While a survey from ASH suggests the rapid rise in youth vaping had thankfully stabilized somewhat in 2024, it's not yet showing a clear decline.

And although the vast majority (81%) of children aged 11-17 have never tried vaping, it's quite shocking that over a third of those who *have* tried vaping had never smoked tobacco. Furthermore, children's awareness of vape promotion continues to climb, adding to the challenge.

Experts and leaders are speaking out too.

Former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak stated: "I am deeply concerned about the sharp rise in kids vaping and shocked by reports of illicit vapes containing lead getting into the hands of school children."

UK Chief Medical Officer Professor Chris Whitty added: "It is important that non-smokers are not encouraged to start vaping. There has been a particularly worrying rise in the number of children using vapes, with companies clearly marketing these products at children using colours, flavours and cheap disposable options."

In conclusion, vaping could be seen as a potential gateway to children smoking, and it's imperative that we do everything we can to discourage its use by the young. Setting a strong, positive example for our young people is an excellent place to start. We remember how tobacco companies in the USA used clever advertising to make smoking appear cool and adult, which sadly led to increased tobacco awareness among children and teens. We certainly don't want history to repeat itself.

In the UK a recent ban on disposable vapes is a sensible step, not only from an environmental standpoint but also because it should make it more challenging for young people to acquire them, provided the regulations are strictly enforced. However, as experience with tobacco has shown, individuals can sometimes find ways around restrictions.

How Hypnotherapy Could Help You Break Free

This is where hypnotherapy offers a truly powerful approach. Quitting vaping isn't just about the physical habit; it's deeply connected to our subconscious patterns, triggers, and associations. People find:

-  Addressing Subconscious Triggers:  Vaping often becomes linked to certain routines, emotions (like stress or boredom), or social situations. Through hypnosis, we can work with the subconscious mind, where these deep-seated connections reside, and begin to reframe your responses to these triggers. Instead of reaching for a vape, you can learn healthier coping mechanisms.

- Reducing Cravings and Urges:  Hypnotherapy can help to diminish the intensity and frequency of cravings by altering the mental associations you have with vaping. We work to weaken the desire, making it easier to resist.

- Rewiring Habits:  The repeated act of vaping creates strong neural pathways. Hypnotherapy offers techniques to help  encourage new, healthier behaviours and patterns that support a vape-free life.
