Fear Of Hospitals Dealt With In Time For Birth of New Baby.
A client came to see me a few weeks ago with a dreadful fear of hospitals and all things medical, he had spent a large part of his life avoiding all contact with doctors, blood tests etc because he feared them so much, avoiding these things was a pretty difficult thing to do as you can imagine.
The reason he came to see me was because his wife had announced she was pregnant and he was so sad that he found himself dreading the whole thing and quickly realised he was not going to give her much support. His wish was to be able to see his child born, but he was sceptical that this could ever happen.
We worked together over three appointments and things changed dramatically for this client, he began to find it OK to accompany his wife to hospital appointments. What was even more remarkable was that he began to become increasingly interested in the whole experience and this amazed him and his wife. I was confident he would be able to cope at the birth and happily I was right. I got a call from him to say he had attended and actually cut the babies cord, he had felt incredibly interested in the whole process and felt he had been able to offer support and everyone had been grateful for his calmness, this would have been unthinkable for him just a few weeks ago.
The motivation for change came from his own desire for things to change, he began to tell himself ‘he could’ and concentrate on what he wanted to happen rather than what he feared might happen. This proved that when you want something badly enough, with the right help absolutely anything is achievable.
